Practical notes on ApplVerID
ApplVerID gives the application version of a single message on a FIXT.1.1 session, when it differs from the session default.
- It is a header field. Without it, a message uses the DefaultApplVerID (1137) agreed at logon.
- Values are codes: 7 = FIX 5.0, 8 = FIX 5.0 SP1, 9 = FIX 5.0 SP2. Codes 2 to 6 stand for FIX 4.0 to 4.4.
Common mistakes
- Sending the name (FIX50SP2) instead of the code (9).
- Sending a version the counterparty does not support, which can be rejected with SessionRejectReason 18.
Changes between FIX versions
- Introduced with FIX 5.0 and FIXT.1.1.

ApplVerID belongs to the standard message header, which every FIX message carries, so it is not listed against individual message types.
Field and message data comes from the QuickFIX data dictionaries for FIX 4.0 to 5.0 SP2 and FIXT 1.1, used under the QuickFIX Software License. This product includes software developed by quickfixengine.org (http://www.quickfixengine.org/). Enumerated value names are converted to plain text for reading.
