Practical notes on OrderID

OrderID is the identifier the sell side (broker or venue) assigns to an order.

  • It appears on every Execution Report. Sending it on cancels and replaces helps venues that look orders up by OrderID.
  • Most sell sides keep the same OrderID across replaces, but this is not guaranteed; follow the ClOrdID chain as well.
  • On an Order Cancel Reject for an order the sell side cannot find, it is set to NONE.
