Practical notes on OrderQty
OrderQty is the quantity to buy or sell, in shares, contracts or units of the instrument.
- It is a decimal type, so fractional quantities are allowed where the market supports them.
- In FIX 4.4 it sits in the OrderQtyData component, which also offers CashOrderQty (152) for orders given as an amount of money and OrderPercent (516).
- On a Cancel/Replace it is the new total quantity of the order, including what has already filled, not the quantity left.
Common mistakes
- Sending the remaining quantity on a replace, which shrinks the order by the filled amount a second time.
- Quantities that are not a multiple of the lot size: OrdRejReason 13 (Incorrect quantity) on FIX 4.4.
